Join us in front of the courthouse for an event to spread awareness about the harmful effects of human trafficking.
Human Trafficking is one of the fastest growing crimes in our state with over 603 tips reported in 2014. North Carolina reportedly has the 10th highest legitimate call volume in all 50 states.
The Trafficking Victims’ Protection Act defines human trafficking as:
a) sex trafficking in which a commercial sex act is induced by force, fraud, or coercion, or in which the person induced to perform such an act has not attained 18 years of age; or
b) the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for labor or services, through the use of force, fraud, or coercion for the purpose of subjection to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage, or slavery.
A victim does not have to be physically transported from one location to another in order for the crime to fall within these trafficking definitions.
Please come out to show your support in spreading awareness about this horrific crime.
